DESCRIPTION:As the sun begins to set over Johnstown Castle and the visitors leave\, many animals are settling down for the night.\nIn the attic of the Irish Agricultural museum and by the lakes others are just coming to life! Did you know the museum attic is home to a large roost of pipistrelle bats? One of the largest in the country in fact! \nThis Spring and Summer we are delighted to welcome you for some very special after hours Bat walks. Come and join us for an evening bat talk and walk with bat conservationist Harm Deenen. Learn about the various bats which live on the Johnstown Estate and why Johnstown Castle is such a special place for them. Their talks will offer practical gardening tips\, horticultural expertise\, and fascinating insights into biodiversity\, making it a great day out for gardeners and nature lovers alike. We look forward to seeing you there! \n10:15 – 10:45 | Wexford Flower and Garden Club  \nFLOWER ARRANGING DEMONSTRATION \n11:00 – 12:00 | Vick Ind\, Individual Plant Nursery  \n‘HOW TO BE A BAD GARDENER’ \nVick is a freelance horticulturist who runs Individual Plants Nursery\, where she grows rare & unusual plants. \nIn this talk she will discuss her own experiences as a gardener and grower who works to ensure nature is embraced and encouraged on her nursery site and in the gardens she works in and will explain how being a “bad gardener” is actually ok\, if you’re bad in a good way! \n12:15 – 13:15 | Colin Jones\, Salterbridge Gardens  \n‘CULTIVATING COLOUR: THE SALTERBRIDGE CUTTING GARDEN’ \nThe talk will tell the story of developing an area of the garden from a neglected lawn with a few random trees into the High Summer Showstopper of Salterbridge Garden that provides cut flowers for the house and other local events. \n13:15 – 13:45 | Wexford Flower and Garden Club \nFLOWER ARRANGING DEMONSTRATION \n13:45 – 14:45 | Collie Ennis\, Trinity College Dublin Biodiversity Officer \n\nCollie Ennis is the Biodiversity Officer at Trinity College Dublin\, where he leads projects to enhance biodiversity across the university campus. \nIn his talk\, Collie will share how initiatives such as creating wildflower meadows and ponds\, building habitats with deadwood\, and adopting wildlife-friendly management practices can be adapted for gardens and community spaces of any size. \nHe will also shine a light on some of the fascinating yet often misunderstood wildlife we share our surroundings with\, including frogs\, insects\, and other small creatures\, demonstrating how simple changes can make a significant difference for biodiversity.
