People are at the heart of everything we do and our mission is to make heritage properties dynamic, accessible and engaging. Our team of passionate and enthusiastic volunteers help us do so much more at our properties and this passion and effort makes a real difference.
Why volunteer with us?
We have a wonderful team of Irish Heritage Trust volunteers helping to get the Castle ready for visitors and tour guiding. There are many reasons for volunteering and by joining the Irish Heritage Trust Volunteer team at Johnstown Castle Estate, Museum & Gardens you will have the opportunity to:
learn new skills
gain experience in a range of areas
do something worthwhile
meet lots of new people
work in beautiful surroundings
What areas can you participate in?
gardening and horticulture
customer services duties
event planning and support
oral history and reminiscence
ambassadors at events
…and much more!
Support and training
Our new volunteers attend an induction workshop where you can meet the team, find out more about Johnstown Castle Estate, Museum & Gardens and other Irish Heritage Trust properties, and learn about the roles you might like to try.
Further training and support will be given on more specific roles and you will have the opportunity to discuss these with other volunteers. We plan regular forums for staff and volunteers to share information, provide training and develop ideas.
If you would like to volunteer at Johnstown, please contact our Volunteer and Events Co-ordinator Anne Wheeler here .
In line with Phase 1 of the Government’s recently announced Roadmap, the gardens and lake walks at Johnstown Castle are now open from Wednesday-Sunday initially for members only.
During this first phase, we will be assessing how our new measures are working and prioritising everyone’s safety so that we can open to the wider public in a safe manner in the foreseeable future.
