Traditional stool making with Dylan McGuirk

May 17 - May 18

Join expert craftsman Dylan McGuirk for a hands-on, two-day workshop in the beautifully restored Bothy Sheds of Johnstown Castle. This immersive experience will introduce participants to the art of making traditional vernacular creepie stools , simple yet elegant, 3- or 4-legged stools that have been crafted for centuries in rural Ireland.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone with a bit of crafting experience, Dylan will guide you through every step of the process, from selecting the right materials to the techniques of shaping, carving, and assembling the stool. You’ll leave the workshop with a functional piece of furniture you crafted yourself, as well as a deeper appreciation for the time-honoured craft of vernacular woodworking.

The workshop will take place in the stunning, newly restored Bothy Sheds, offering an inspiring setting for learning and creating. This is a rare opportunity to explore traditional woodworking techniques in a historic and tranquil environment.
