Cyanotype Workshop

July 19 @ 10:00 - July 26 @ 10:00

Cyanotype

This summer, Judith Tutin returns to conduct the sought-after cyanotype workshop in the gardens of Johnstown Castle.

Owing to its enormous success last year, Judith will host two sessions on the 19th and 26th of July, from 10 am to 1 pm.

Cyanotype, a classic analog photography technique that uses sunlight and specially treated paper, produces prints in a rich Prussian blue with a white negative of the placed objects. Favored by 19th-century botanists and architects for creating ‘blueprints,’ cyanotype is now gaining popularity among artists in the digital age as a tangible and gratifying way to engage with nature.

As a skilled practitioner, Judith will guide participants in crafting exquisitely arranged plant-based prints, delve into the chemistry behind cyanotype, and explore the broader possibilities of this art form. The workshop will take place adjacent to the walled gardens, providing an array of plants for use.

Given that the process relies on weather conditions, adjustments to the schedule may be necessary to take full advantage of the midday sun. The workshop welcomes participants of all ages and skill levels. While children may attend for free, they must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Please email doylejudith@yahoo.co.uk to book a place or to enquire further. Cost €60.
