Window Restoration and Conservation at Johnstown Castle

The Castle windows at Johnstown Castle are currently being painstakingly restored and in the coming months, works will be continuing on the restoration of all the Castles’ windows which is being completed by National Gates & Joinery.

This is a hugely important area of restoration, and it is something that both Johnstown Castle Estate, Museum & Gardens and The Irish Heritage Trust have been focused on for some time. The windows that are in place are being professional removed by National Gates & Joinery to be conserved and restored off site. Once the works have been completed, the windows are returned to Johnstown and reinstalled.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the works and the restoration process, the windows do have to be taken out and that specific area must be temporarily blocked up. Both National Gates & Joinery as well as Johnstown Castle Estate, Museum and Gardens are working as quickly and efficiently as possible to reduce the visual impact for all visitors.

The works will not affect the running of our daily guided tours of the Castle, and we look forward to the works being completed and the windows being restored to their former glory in the coming months.

Apologies for an inconvenience caused during these vital works.
