George Grogan Morgan, Johnstown Castle, Ardcandrisk House & the Anna Eliza by Duncan Laurence

September 19 @ 11:00 - 12:00

A collage of images containing: Ardkansrick House; a family portrait of the Grogan Morgans; Johnstown Castle; and the Anna Eliza ship.

It is not well known that the owner of Johnstown Castle, Hamilton Knox Grogan Morgan, had a younger brother, George. So who was George? Where did he live? What did he do? Who was his wife? What happened to him? And why is so little known about him?

Using photographs, maps, historical records and newspaper accounts, this talk will answer these and other questions. George’s story covers Wexford’s pre-Famine era, the early days of Ardcandrisk House, extreme wealth, marriage, luxury yachting, a Mediterranean grand tour, a pandemic, regattas in Wexford harbour, bankruptcies and death.

Limited spaces available, advanced booking required.

Location: Ballroom, Johnstown Castle Estate
